I've been using those coiled up air hoses for many years, for so long in fact that the plastic is quite old and brittle. I happened to step backwards onto one the other day and it exploded. Time for a new one.
I went down to the nearest Bunnings intending to pick up another of the same but I spied this retractable air hose on a really good special. Never one to pass up a bargin I rationalised that this would replace the broken one as well as the remaining unbroken one, thus I convinced myself to buy it.
